Polar Adventure Days return this winter to Northerly Island Park. Beginning December 10, 2016, and continuing January 21 and February 25, 2017, Chicagoans can explore Northerly Island, engage in winter activities, come face-to-face with live animals and create nature inspired crafts.
This will be the Chicago Park District’s 12th annual Polar Days season. This year visitors will be treated to a number of winter activities that are both educational and fun for all ages. Participants will tour Northerly Island’s Natural Area, either on foot or in snowshoes depending on weather, and learn about winter animals including Siberian huskies, wolves and some birds of prey. Patrons can also work together to make a nature inspired winter craft while they enjoy hot cocoa and a CLIF Kid Healthy Snack.
“The Polar Adventure Days is one of the Park District’s most unique events,” said Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO Michael Kelly. “To be able to walk around in snowshoes and interact with wolves is not an experience that many Chicagoans get living in the city.”
All Polar Adventure Days take place from 12 p.m. -4 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to arrive early as hot cocoa will be available only for the first 500 visitors. By participating in Polar Adventure Days visitors can also receive Park Points just by checking in at the event. Park Points is a loyalty program for Chicago Park District patrons where patrons receive points for signing up for the program and then for checking in at every Park event they attend. They then use these points to bid on prizes and exclusive offers and events on the Park Points website.
