Chicago Park District Teams Up with The North Face Explore Your Parks Program to Get Families Outdoors This Summer
The Chicago Park District is teaming up with The North Face and its Explore Your Parks program to encourage people to get outdoors this summer and enjoy activities such as Family Camping at select parks. The nationwide Explore Your Parks program provides activity guide booklets with a purchase of any product from The North Face store.
The Chicago Park District’s Family Camping program is supported this year by The North Face Camping 101 program, which is designed for novice campers and gives families an opportunity to camp overnight in select Chicago parks. Activities begin Saturdays at 2 p.m. and end on Sundays at 10 a.m. and include fishing, fire building, guided nature hikes, cooking demonstrations and more.
The first program June 22-23 at Northerly Island is sold out, but slots are available for Chicago Park District locations on the following dates:
Aug. 17-18, Palmisano Park, 2700 S. Halsted St. (registration open)
Sept. 14-15, Gompers Park, 4222 W. Foster Ave. (registration open)
Sept. 21-22, Bull Frog Lake, Palos Park, Ill., in conjunction with the Cook County Forest Preserve (registration date to be announced)
Oct. 5-6, Jackson Park, Wooded Island, 6401 S. Stony Island Ave. (registration open)
The Family Camping registration fee is $50 per family of up to six members, including children ages 6-12. Check www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/nature for updates.
