Dive Into Summer at 50 Citywide Outdoor Pools
Cool off on the first day of summer with a dip at one of the Chicago Park District’s 50 outdoor pools, which officially open for the season today through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2. Pools are open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. unless otherwise posted. Admission is free to Park District pools, but fees vary for lap swim and instructional classes.
The Chicago Park District has 26 indoor pools and 50 outdoor pools. It also runs swimming programs at 13 Chicago Public School indoor pools in partnership with After School Matters. Most of the indoor pools are open year-round.
Many pools offer learn to swim lessons, which are free of charge for youth ages 6-17. All learn to swim programs are taught by certified American Red Cross water safety instructors. Learn to swim is about both physical fitness and safety.
Swimming programs with nominal fees are also offered for toddlers 36 months to 5 years of age and for adults and seniors. For a full list of aquatics offerings and other Chicago Park District summer programs, click here.
Many of the Park District pools have accessibility features such as ADA stairs, pool lifts and zero depth entry. At a few locations with pool lifts, direct wheelchair access to the pool area may still be limited.
