Join us for a great performance in the park.

The Chicago Park District in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events is offering the interdisciplinary Classics in the Parks series this fall featuring five local companies in an eclectic interpretation of classical performances.

In the Spirit and Shanta present an interactive, participatory workshop leading up to their 6pm presentation of Classic Black.

In Classic Black, an ensemble of storytellers and percussionists will combine classic African American literature frum such writers as Zora Neale Hurston, Gwendolyn Brooks and Langston Hughes with music from Duke Ellington, Nina Simone, and Mahalia Jackson, among others. The stories, songs, rhythms and poetry will create an interactive lesson on Black history.
