A rare, exciting historic tour of Jackson Park! Don't forget your flashlight.

This tour offers a rare and exciting opportunity for a nighttime exploration of Jackson Park, the site of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition and iconic work of Frederick Law Olmsted who is recognized as "Father of American Landscape Architecture". Historian Julia Bachrach will lead this Historic South Lakefront Tour featuring iconic Chicago landscapes, artworks, and architecture. Historians Julia Bachrach, Tim Samuelson, Ray Johnson and ecologist Lauren Umek will lead the tours. The event highlights the three plans created by Olmsted and his firms, the original 1871 Plan of South Park, the fairgrounds for the 1893 White City, and the transformation of the site to parkland by Olmsted, Olmsted and Eliot in 1895. The tours will also highlight the current multi-million dollar project by the Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago Park District and Project 120 to restore ecological health of the landscape and preserve the Olmsted landscape. Parking is available at the Hayes Drive lot north of Jackson Park's Cecil Partee Golf Course. Meet at 8:45 pm at the Statue of Republic on Hayes Drive. Bring a Flashlight!
