A Raisin in the Sun
On Chicago's south side, the five members of the Younger family are waiting for a $10,000 check, their dead father's life insurance money. They all agreed that the matriarch of the family can use the money as she sees fit. All...except the oldest son, Walter Lee who sees the money as an opportunity to better the life for himself, his wife, and their ten-year-old son. He takes the money entrusted to him and invests it poorly. Yet, at a most critical time in all their lives, he redeems himself and is able to start a better future for the entire family. Lorraine Hansberry, winner of the 1959 New York Drama Critics Circle Award, adapted her powerful stage play for the screen to create a powerful film.
