Conservatory Campfires: A Summer Solstice Backyard Parade and Procession

Unique marching bands and drums will be lining up in the Garfield Park Conservatory's backyard space for a mid-summer’s night march.

Chicago’s inspiring community drum corps, Kaotic Drumline, as well as the fantastic punk rock marching band Mucca Pazza will be parading throughout our backyard spaces, in a non-traditional community parade. Family friendly activity stations and campfires will be located throughout the event. Urban Fire Masters from performance art troupe Pyrotechniq will be on hand to tend the flames and keep our Chicago home fires burning. Come hang out in our city backyard, be a part of something special, and get connected to your city. (Parade starts at 7:00 pm. See schedule below.)
Pre-Parade Activities
4 – 7pm: Make an Instrument and Parade Costume Using Natural Material in the outdoor Play and Grow Garden
5 – 7pm: Learn How to Build a Fire, using Marshmallows & Pretzels on the south lawn near fires
6:40 – 7pm: Kaotic Drumline Roving Performance starts in the front of the Palm House, travels to outdoor Blue Stone Terrace
Parade Activities
7 – 7:05pm: Mucca Pazza Joins Kaotic Drumline/ Plays Song/ Lines up with Public Participants in Summer Solstice Backyard Parade (Parade line up happens at 7pm, Mucca Pazza leads off around City Backyard at 7:05pm)
7:05 – 7:20pm: Mucca Pazza/ Kaotic Drumline Leads Public in Summer Solstice Backyard Parade (Both children and adults are invited to be part of this procession. Everyone is also welcome to simply watch.)
Performance
7:30 – 8pm: Mucca Pazza Performs Throughout Backyard Lawn (A seat on the lawn will assure a good view of multiple performance spots.)
8:05 – 8:15pm: Kaotic Drumline Helps Drum Up Support for Programs like These (Throw some money into the big drum and help more free programs like these happen.)
Evening Wrap Up
8:15 – 9:00pm: Enjoy the glow of the fire, build an edible campfire, talk to your neighbor, roll down a hill, & buy some food from the food trucks on your way out
