Law Department

The Law Department manages the legal affairs of the District. Routine areas of daily business include claims filed against the District, environmental litigation, real estate issues, tax matters, labor relations, intergovernmental agreements, facility accessibility, land acquisitions, permits, Constitutional First Amendment issues, contracts, municipal finance transactions and management of Freedom of Information requests. Additionally, the Law Department oversees the District's legal investigations and handles the District's Whistleblower Hotline.

Whistleblower Hotline

Any person who would like to report information regarding any misconduct, unlawful activity, or prohibited behavior occurring within the Chicago Park District can call the District's Whistleblower Hotline at (312) 742-DEED (312-742-3333). All calls will remain confidential.

Freedom of Information Act Request Procedure

Any person requesting records of the Chicago Park District (hereinafter CPD) may make such a request either in person, orally or in writing at CPD headquarters located at 541 N. Fairbanks Court, Chicago, IL 60611. Such requests should be made to the Freedom of Information Officer, at such address. Another method would be by mailing a written request to the Freedom of Information officer specifying in particular the records requested to be disclosed and copied. All written requests should be addressed to the Freedom of Information Officer at 541 N. Fairbanks Court, Chicago, IL 60611. If you desire that any records be certified, you must indicate that in your request and specify which records must be certified.

The fees for any such records, if the person is requesting the records wishes them to be copied, are as follows:

The first 20 pages are free of charge. Each additional page is copied at fifteen (15) cents per page.

In the event that a request to inspect Park District Records is denied by the District's Freedom of Information Officer, the denial may be appealed to the General Superintendent & CEO. Such an appeal must be made within fourteen (14) days after the requesting party receives the written notice denying said request; or in the event that the denial is not by letter, the appeal must be made fourteen (14) days after the request is effectively denied.
