Lyra Belacqua is an orphan who lives happily among the halls of Jordan College, Oxford. When Lyra overhears the professors discussing a mysterious substance called Dust, which is rumored to possess profound properties that could unite the whole universe, she heads off on an adventure that puts her in the company with clans, gyptians and formidable armored bears in this fantasy adventure.
