Release Date: 07/08/09
The Chicago Park District’s Board of Commissioners in a recent board meeting approved an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Chicago and accepted the transfer of TIF funds to the Chicago Park District in the amount of $350,000 for the reimbursement of development costs for Bromann (Charles H.) Park, 5406 N. Broadway St.
Bromann Park, located in the 48th Ward, is approximately 0.14 acres and the portion of the expansion measures approximately 0.07 acres. Supported by 48th Ward Alderman Mary Ann Smith, the vacant property will be used for park and recreation purposes, expanding the existing playground.
The Chicago Park District purchased the property in 1974. At that time, the Edgewater community population was steadily increasing and the Park District wanted to help fulfill the neighborhood’s recreational needs with the addition of this new park. The park was named in 1978 after a life-long Edgewater resident named Charles H. Bromann.
“BromannParkhas played a vital role in the lives of many in the Edgewater community,” said Timothy J. Mitchell, Chicago Park District General Superintendent & CEO. “The Park District continues to offer communities top-notch facilities and programs at low to no cost.”
