Five Chicago Park District sites have been chosen to participate in the second year of Staples Dream Park Challenge with the Bears, a local parks improvement initiative. During the challenge, 15 parks throughout the Chicagoland area will compete for the chance to win the grand prize of $25,000 to be used for park improvements and a winner’s celebration featuring Chicago Bears’ star Adewale Ogunleye at Soldier Field.

Selected Chicago Park District locations this year include:
1.Chase Park, 4701 N. Ashland Ave.
2.Grand Crossing Park, 7655 S. Ingleside Ave.
3.Marquette Park, 6734 S. Kedzie Ave.
4.Palmer Park, 201 E. 111th St.
5.Pulaski Park, 1419 W. Blackhawk St.

Additional prizes include $10,000 and $5,000 in park improvements for the first- and second-place runner-ups. The remaining 12 parks will receive $500 each for their participation.

“Local parks play a crucial role in strengthening communities, and we are excited to partner again with Staples and the Chicago Bears,” said Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO Timothy Mitchell.

Last year, Chicago residents cast more than 319,000 votes to benefit Chicago Park District locations in the first Staples Dream Park Challenge with the Bears. La Follette Park, 1333 N. Laramie Ave., garnered more than one-third of the votes and used the $25,000 grand prize to purchase lockers, a scoreboard and bleachers to benefit local youth sports programs. The runner-up parks – Dunham Park, 4638 N. Melvina Ave., and Ada Park, 11250 S. Ada St. – received $10,000 and $5,000 respectively for park improvements.

Now through Nov. 17, Chicago residents can vote once per day for their local park at www.StaplesDreamPark.com/Bears, and pick-up a free “power card” at any Chicagoland Staples store to have their online vote count 10 extra times. Voters will automatically be entered to win a chance to meet Ogunleye in person at the Staples Dream Park Challenge winner’s celebration later this year.
