Theater on the Lake Revisits its Ghostly Past as a Former Sanitarium

Back by popular demand, the Chicago Park District and Walgreens present the fifth annual Haunted Sanitarium at Theater on the Lake, 2401 N. Lake Shore Dr., Oct. 10-Nov. 1. The popular summertime theater is located along Chicago’s beautiful lakefront and revisits its original use as a sanitarium in the 1920s and ‘30s.
The Haunted Sanitarium celebrates opening weekend Oct. 10-12 and continues Oct. 17-19 and Oct. 23-Nov. 1. Hours are Mondays-Fridays from 7–11 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 6-11 p.m. The attraction is recommended for ages 13 and older.
General admission is $10, $8 for students with school identification Sundays-Thursdays only. Opening night, Friday, Oct. 10, is half-price night. Guests are asked to be in line no later than 10:30 p.m. each evening for the final performance. Validated parking is available for $6 at Lincoln Park Zoo. This year’s Haunted Sanitarium features several scary scenes including an Egyptian tomb, graveyard, and a demented clown’s test lab. There will also be a waiting area featuring concessions and spooky movies. Visitors needing special assistance will be partnered with a staff guide.
