YOUTH, TEENS TO LEARN FROM THE PROS AT HORNER PARK PRO SCOUT BASEBALL CLINIC

Back by popular demand!Horner Park will host the 2nd Annual Pro Scout Baseball Clinic on Saturday, Jan. 17 and Sunday, Jan. 18 at HornerPark, 2741 W. Montrose, in Chicago.

Pro scouts, former players, and local coaches will teach two clinics covering hitting, catching, pitching, infield and outfield techniques and drills over the two days. At the end of each day there will a play/parent Q & A session with scouts and coaches. Each child will receive a clinic t-shirt and a chance to win Wilson equipment.

Clinic details are as follows.

· Saturday, January 17

· Strictly Hitting, Bunting & Conditioning

· 9:30 am to 12:30 pm

· ages 8-12, $30

· 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm

· ages 12-16, $30

· Sunday, January 18

· Pitching, Hitting, Catching, Infield, and Outfield Techniques

· 10 am – 2 pm

· ages 8-16, $45

Register online @www.hornerpark.org or in-person on Tuesday evenings at HornerPark between 7-9pm.Limited spots available, so early registration is highly recommended. All checks should be payable to HPAC.Register for both days and receive a discount.

Among the coaches teaching the clinics are:

Al Hargeshiemer - Pitched 12 years in the Major Leagues that included the Chicago Cubs. For the past 10 years Al has been the top scout for the Detroit Tigers. Al is currently the International Scouting Director to the Nippon Fighters in Sapporo, Japan.

Marty Miller - A 30 year veteran of Major League Baseball. Marty played and scouted for the Chicago Cubs, S.F.Giants, and Oakland A's. Marty is currently scouting with the Detroit Tigers. He is considered one of the hardest working scouts in the game and is a hitting expert.

Bill Harford - A 25 year veteran to Major League Baseball. Bill has been a scout for many years and the Minor League Director. Bill is currently working with the Chicago Cubs Organization.

Izzie Sopena - Izzie played for the Philadelphia Phillies and has coached at Division 1A College Baseball level for 17 years. Izzie is the "technician" when it comes to handling the glove and using footwork.

Dan Puente - A catching aficionado, Dan played for the Minnesota Twins' after attending BradleyUniversity.

Last year, more than 100 children between the ages of 8-16 participated, received t-shirts and won raffled prizes, such as batting helmets and baseball gloves.

“We’re thankful to all the pro scouts and coaches who havecome out to provide expert, personalized instruction to area youth,” McManamon said.“They have allowed us to continue this one-of-a-kind event annually at the park, where many of the kids already play baseball.”
