Release Date: 03/21/08
Join the Chicago Park District, Friends of the Park and a couple hundred volunteers to celebrate Earth Day at the Humboldt Park Boathouse, 1359 N. Sacramento on Saturday, April 19 from 9am – 2pm.
Clean-up of the park with Friends of the Parks will take place from 9 am until noon and the celebration will continue from 11 am until 2 pm. Activities will also include tree planting, entertainment, educational and hands-on activities.
“The Earth Day Event is a great opportunity for families to take part in learning about nature and how it impacts our lives,” said Chicago Park District General Superintendent Tim Mitchell. “The informational and interactive element of this event brings nature right into children’s hands and helps them understand how important and interesting it is.”
Participants can take part in a variety of fun activities. Hands-on activities include seed-planting, face painting and learning to cast a rod and reel near the lagoon. The Environmental Protection Agency and TreeKeepers will provide information highlighting natural area restoration and preservation.
