Release Date: 05/08/06

The Lincoln Park Conservancy in partnership with the Chicago Park District invites the public to attend the 2006 Lincoln Park Conservatory Orchid Show & Sale. Five prominent orchid vendors will offer hundreds of varieties of the rare flower from Friday, May 12, through Sunday, May 14, at this free show.

"The Lincoln Park Conservatory Orchid Show & Sale is a great way for families to enjoy this rare flower in the tropical atmosphere of one of our popular conservatories," said Chicago Park District General Superintendent Timothy J. Mitchell.

This year’s flower vendors are EFG Orchids and Power Plant, both based in Florida, Iowa Orchids, based in Iowa, and Natt’s Orchids, based in Chicago, and J&K, based in Wisconsin.

The Lincoln Park Conservancy, formerly known as the Friends of Lincoln Park, and the Chicago Park District have partnered on many projects to improve Lincoln Park including the $2.4 million restoration of the historic Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool.

Most recently, the Conservancy hired David Woodhouse Architects to design a Master Plan for the restoration of the Lincoln Park Conservatory. This plan will highlight the desire of the Conservancy to capture the 19th century charm of the Lincoln Park Conservatory but add 21st century touches.

"Once again, we are pleased to partner with the Chicago Park District, at the Lincoln Park Conservatory where locally grown, affordable orchids will be available to the public from the top breeders," said Lincoln Park Conservancy Executive Director Steve Zelner.

The Lincoln Park Conservatory is located at 2391 N. Stockton Drive and is open 365 days a year from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
