Chicago Park District Hosts Outdoor Concerts Now Through September

Release Date: 06/19/07

More than 80 outdoor music events descend upon the neighborhood parks this summer as the Chicago Park District hosts Concerts in the Parks now through Sept. 16. Admission is free.

“Our Concerts in the Parks series brings a variety of musical genres to our various neighborhood parks for all residents to enjoy,” said Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO Timothy J. Mitchell. “We continue to partner with other organizations to present a mix of both professional and emerging artists at our sites.”

A new feature this season includes an extension of the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs’ Chicago SummerDance series into the neighborhoods with Chicago SummerDance … On the Move. Four parks, including Athletic Field Park, Humboldt Park Boathouse, Jackson Park 63rd Street Beach, and the Garfield Park Conservatory, host 12 Chicago SummerDance events on Wednesdays and Thursdays, June 20 - Aug. 29. Dance lessons are from 6 - 7 p.m. followed by live music and dancing from 7 - 9 p.m.

Additional collaborations this year include neighborhood concerts produced by the Pitchfork Music Festival, Old Town School of Folk Music, Ravinia Festival, Martyr’s, and various aldermen. The Concerts in the Parks series has been bringing a wide variety of musical styles including salsa, pop, big band and R&B, to more than 40 parks since 1947.
