Additional Proposed Attractions Include City Tours, Bike Rentals, Recreation Areas and Entertainment
Release Date: 03/15/07
The Chicago Park District Board of Commissioners passed a proposal from the City of Chicago to establish concessions along the south bank of the Chicago River from Lake Street to Lake Shore Drive known as the Riverwalk. The passing vote was cast at yesterday’s board meeting at the Park District, 541 N. Fairbanks Ct.
The City of Chicago’s Department of Transportation seeks the Park District’s expertise in establishing and managing the Riverwalk concessions program. The right of entry agreement is for a five-year term with an option for two additional one-year extensions. The Park District will retain all generated revenues minus City expenses related to maintenance, security and site preparation.
The proposed collaboration between the City and the Park District aims to offer first-class amenities to both residents and visitors. Programs and services that may be presented in conjunction with the concessions include, but are not limited to: city tours, bicycle rentals, recreational climbing and play areas, floating concessions/market place, cafés, restaurants, water taxi service, boat valets, cultural programming, and gallery and museum space.
