Come check out what the Chicago Park District's only organic greenhouse is offering this spring! Kilbourn Park Organic Greenhouse, 3501 N. Kilbourn Ave., will provide a number of creative and fun programs for children and adults in 2007.

ORGANIC GARDENING SERIES FOR ADULTS
· Creating an Ivy Topiary
· April 7, 10 am – 12 Noon
· 18 & over, $15
Topiary is the botanical art of shaping plants.It includes everything from the large sculptured shrub characters found at Disney World to small tabletop ivy standards.Learn about the many varieties of topiary including shaped evergreens and structure supported ivy topiaries.Class participants will have an opportunity to work with various metal frames to create their own take home creation.Plant material suitable for topiary design will also be discussed. Instructor Kim Kozimor is a Master Gardener and the owner of Kim Kozimor Garden Design.
· Edible Landscaping
· April 21, 10 am – 12 Noon
· 18 & over, $15
Description of EventLearn about plants that provide multiple functions in the landscape. Many edible and medicinal plants can easily be incorporated into home planting, both in the ground and in container gardens. Garden consultant and designer BillShores will discuss some of his favorite plants and techniques for creating eye-catching plantings and plant combinations that will look good all season long while providing a bounty of harvestable product.
· Philosophy of Fertility, Food Production, and Community
· June 20, 6 – 7:30 pm
· 18 & over, $5
Growing Power will share how and why community food systems have the potential for creating justice, food security and equity. They will share some of the strategies that have been successful in their efforts to fulfill their current mission and how that is leading to a global community of stewards of sustainability.
Garden Craft Series for Adults
· Garden Journal
· May 19, 9 am – 12 Noon
· 18 & over, $45,
· limited class size, pre-registration is highly recommended
Get ready for the spring with a garden journal you create from scratch. Learn bookbinding techniques for manipulating and stitching seed packets, photographs, magazine clippings and unusual, colorful papers into a delightful hardcover book. Each person will complete a small journal to take home.
· Needle Felting
· June 6, 6 – 8 pm
· 18 & over, $30
· limited class size, pre-registration is highly recommended
Needle felting is a dry felting technique requiring only the basic felting needle, upholstery grade foam, and colored wool roving. All students will begin with a simple daisy to pin to a jacket or purse before progressing to forms of personal interest. Warning! Once you start, this technique quickly becomes addictive.

· Garden Sculpture
· April 14, 9 am – 12 Noon

· $30 for adult, $15 per child (6-12)
· Require 1 adult to every 2 kids
· Pre-registration is highly recommended.
Twist and wrap colorful wire into whimsical sculptures to adorn your garden. Beads, seeds, and other collected bits and pieces will add texture. Let your imagination go wild. Make a robot, dragon, or even a spaceship. Use them to add interest to your garden or to be a colorful vine support.
· Cyanotype Photogram Cards
· June 9, 9 am – 12 Noon
· Family-friendly
· $30 for adult, $15 per child (6-12),
· Require 1 adult to every 2 kids,
· Pre-registration is highly recommended.
Cyanotype is one of the oldest and easiest photographic techniques. Photograms are made using sunlight and pretreated paper. Learn to make your own and then collage them into cards for family and friends. Everyone will leave with a masterpiece!

Kilbourn Organic Greenhouse’s annual event focuses on open-pollinated tomatoes suitable for Chicago, in addition to seasonal organic vegetables, herbs and flowers.

Have questions about how to plant, when to plant, fertilizing, composting, watering, mulching? Bring your questions and come to this evening’s discussion.
