Go Wild, at North Park Village Nature Center’s “City Wilds Festival”

Release Date: 05/25/07

The Chicago Park District invites you to celebrate the biodiversity of the natural world with cicadas at the “City Wilds Festival” Saturday, June 9 and Sunday, June 10 from 10am to 3pm at the North Park Village Nature Center, 5801 N. Pulaski.

The two-day festival gives attendees an opportunity to discover native plants on the 46-acre preserve. Visitors can learn about composting and interact with live animals. The festival is also an opportunity to discover more about the benefits of landscaping with native plants and how they attract wildlife. A native plant sale will also be available.

New this year at the City Wilds Festival, the center staff will also celebrate the emergence of the 17-year cycle Cicada . As a tribute to their arrival, North ParkVillageNatureCenter will be paying homage to the little critters by making “cicadagami” figures with kids, along with other programming. Get a sneak peak at the critters while learning about the importance of biodiversity.

The City Wilds Festival is one of four major festivals held at North ParkVillageNatureCenter. Come and explore the biodiversity of this beautiful jewel in Chicago’s own backyard.

The festival is free to the public and is accessible by public transportation. For more information, call the North ParkVillageNatureCenter at 312.744.5472, or visit the Chicago Park District’s Web site at www.chicagoparkdistrict.com .
