Release Date: 01/08/08
The Chicago Park District continues the popular admission-free Polar Adventure Days on Saturday, Jan. 19 and Feb. 23 from 12-4 p.m. at Northerly Island, 1400 S. Lynn White Dr., on the Museum Campus. The Park District partners with the Field Museum for the final event Feb. 23 to present a slide show by oceanographer, explorer, and photographer Chris Linder.
Linder shares a slide show Feb. 23 of Arctic and Antarctic photography to promote the opening of the exhibit Exploring the Arctic Seafloor: Photographs by Chris Linder at the Field Museum, 1400 S. Lake Shore Dr.
The exhibition chronicles an unprecedented expedition exploring the remotest spot on earth: volcanic ridges at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean located under 15 feet of ice and two miles of deep, dark water.
Linder will bring a polar explorer protection suit for children to try. Additionally, visitors to Polar Adventure Days can walk from Northerly Island to the Field Museum and view the exhibition as well as other offerings at the museum. General admission is free to the Field Museum for February 2008.
At the Chicago Park District’s Polar Adventure Days, visitors will have the opportunity to come face-to-face with live animals, engage in winter activities, watch ice sculpture carvings, and create nature-inspired crafts.
The following features and activities will be available at the third annual Polar Adventure Days on Saturday, Jan. 19 and Feb. 23:
