DON’T BE A FISH OUT OF WATER; BE A JUNIOR LIFEGUARD

SUMMER PROGRAM FOR AGES 8-15 BEGINS JUNE 22

Youth ages 8-15 who are good swimmers and aspire to be a Chicago Park District lifeguard are encouraged to participate in the Junior Lifeguard summer program that runs from June 22-July 31.

Registration for the program begins online at www.chicagoparkdistrict.com on Monday, April 20. In-person registration will be held at the individual beach sites beginning May 22, 2009 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. There are limited spots available for in-person registration. The following seven beach sites will host the program this summer: Leone, Montrose, North Avenue, 31st Street, 63rd Street, South Shore, and Calumet.

All children registering for the Chicago Park District Junior Lifeguard program must successfully pass a swim test. The natatorium instructor must sign the swim test verification form after successful completion. All registration is contingent upon receipt of swim test verification form.

Each summer, the Chicago Park District hires hundreds of qualified lifeguards ages 16 and up for placement at either one of the beaches along Chicago’s lakefront or more than 100 pools throughout the city. Youth who are interested in becoming a lifeguard are encouraged to go through the Junior Lifeguard program to develop their skills. For more information, call 312-742-5121.
