Parkways Foundation's Second Annual Galapalooza Benefits Buckingham Fountain Restoration Project
Release Date: 08/11/08
The Parkways Foundation, the non-profit partner of the Chicago Park District, redefined fundraisers at the second annual GALApalooza July 31 by creating lounges in front of the Petrillo Band Shell in Grant Park for 500 guests.
“GALApalooza offers an exclusive sneak peek of Grant Park’s transformation into the Lollapalooza venue,” said Denise Stefan, Parkways Foundation President. “Proceeds from this year benefit Buckingham Fountain, one of Chicago’s greatest treasures and one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.”
The event raised $200,000 to benefit the Buckingham Fountain Restoration Project, which is the renovation and restoration of the historic fountain in Grant Park.
GALApalooza was produced by C3 Presents and featured a special performance by funk, rhythm and blues artist Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, who later performed as part of Lollapalooza 2008, Aug. 1-3. DJ Bald Eagle performed during the reception.
In addition to the concert, guests enjoyed dinner and cocktails in a hip, contemporary setting of sofas and ottomans in place of traditional tables. Guests were also entertained with a circus arts performance by CircEsteem, an organization that is partnering with the Chicago Park District through Parkways funding.
Additional Chicago Park District programs funded by the Parkways Foundation include the Alvin Ailey Dance Camp Scholarships, the Community Garden Grant Program, Park Audio Tours, and the Inferno Mobile Recording Studio, which provides children the opportunity to write and record original poetry and songs.
Parkways Foundation is the philanthropic partner of the Chicago Park District. Since its inception in 1994, Parkways Foundation has been funding park projects in Chicago’s underserved neighborhoods. The foundation has raised millions of dollars toward historic preservation and restoration, programming initiatives and environmental enrichment.
