SWING YOUR “FAMILY” ROUND & ROUND TO THE 7th ANNUAL GARFIELD PARK CONSERVATORY COUNTY FAIRS

Experience the excitement of a county fair in the middle of the city – the original Urban Hoedown! The 7th Annual County Fair takes place on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Garfield Park Conservatory, 300 N. Central Park Ave.

The County Fair, which kicks off the Conservatory’s Fall Flower Show (outdoor), features a gardening competition, petting zoo, activities for children including pony rides, farmer’s market, musical entertainment, a Fun & Games area, Artist Row and much more.

Presented in conjunction with the World Music Festival, this year’s County Fair features Balla Kouyate, one of the greatest balafon players from the Djeli or “griot” tradition in Mali.

The Fun & Games area and the Niki in the Garden exhibit are the only part of the fair that has an entrance fee. The Fun & Games area will feature face painting, an obstacle course, moon walk, an airbrush tattoo artist and children’s music. For $5 a person or $20 per family, guests can enjoy a performance and interactive workshop by CircEsteem. In addition, the carriage rides cost $2. I fyou are visting the Conservatory for the Niki in the Garden exhibit, there is a suggested donation of $5 per adult (children are free.)

CircEsteem will perform an interactive show and workshop to teach participants a variety of circus skills such as juggling, balancing objects, spinning plates, stilt walking, and clowning.The Fun & Games area is open from 11a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Garfield Market Place will feature a Farmers’ Market as well as a contest for community gardeners who bring in their prize vegetables and flowers. Master Gardeners in the conservatory’s Demonstration Garden will offer helpful tips on organic and container gardening.

The County Fair is sponsored by the Chicago Park District and the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance. The fair is made possible with support from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and the World Music Festival.

The Garfield Park Conservatory is open daily from 9 a.m. 5 p.m. and until 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

Garfield Park Conservatory is located just fifteen minutes west of downtown. From I-290, exit Independence Avenue (3800 west) and travel north. Turn east onto Washington Blvd. Turn north onto Central Park Avenue (3600 west). The parking lot is on the left, before the conservatory. Alternatively, take the CTA Green line and exit at Conservatory/Central Park Drive.
