THE CHICAGO PARK DISTRICT ENTERS INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE CHICAGO FEDERATION OF MUSICIANS

The Chicago Park District Board of Commissioners approved to enter into a collective bargaining agreement with the Chicago Federation of Musicians, Local 10-208.

The agreement will be for a three-year term and includes the following provisions:

· pension, health, and welfare benefits will remain static at 2008 levels for the life of the agreement.

· Salaries will also remain static at 2008 levels during 2009 and 2010.

· In 2011, union members will be given a 1.5% wage increase for the first six weeks of the season and a 1.5% wage increase for the remaining four weeks of the season, resulting in a blended salary increase of approximately 2%.

· Members will take an unpaid furlough service in years 2009 and 2010 resulting in an actual decrease by a total of $6750 and be reinstated in subsequent years through funding provided by the Grant Park Orchestra Association.

· Starting in 2009, union members will be given premium pay for performances on the 4thof July.

· There will be a hiring freeze equal to one member in each of the years 2009 and 2010, resulting in a decrease in expenditures of approximately 1%. There will be personal changes with regard to titled musicians.

The Chicago Park District has agreed not to pursue any terminations until one full year after the installation of a new Executive Director of the Grant Park Music Festival.

Funding for all collective bargaining agreement increases will be covered by the current Chicago Park District allocation for the Grant Park Music Festival, and contributions form the Grant Park Orchestra Association.
