General Superintendent Timothy J. Mitchell of the Chicago Park District was joined by Alderman Ted Matlak (32nd Ward), and community members at the check presentation ceremony at SuperaPark playground 2522 N. Racine Ave., in Lincoln Park.Alderman Matlak presented a check in the amount of $215,000 to the Chicago Park District towards the renovation of the playground improvements at SuperaPark.
“The Chicago Park District takes great pride in updating neighborhood playgrounds to meet the needs of the communities that they serve,” Mitchell said. “This playground is a great example of how the City and the community have worked together to provide a valuable source of family enjoyment for residents.”
The dated playground will be renovated with state-of-the-art ADA accessible equipment, new rubber soft surfacing, picnic table seating for adults and play structures for both tots and children 5-12.The entire play area will comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to be accessible to children with disabilities.
Ground breaking on the playground is set for spring 2008, with an expected completion of fall 2008.
In addition to Alderman Matlak’s $215,000 contribution, the Supera Park Advisory Council has raised $145,000 and the Park District has committed $200,000 from the capital budget.
With the absence of federal funding to support urban parks, we rely heavily on our local elected officials for their support. In the last five years, Alderman Matlak has contributed more than $1.2 million to the parks in his ward.
