KILBOURN PARK ORGANIC GREENHOUSE TO OFFER GARDENING PROGRAMS

Kilbourn Park Organic Greenhouse, 3501 N. Kilbourn Ave., home of the Chicago Park District’s only organic-teaching greenhouse, is offering up a variety of gardening programs this fall.

*HARVEST FEST 2006

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9

10 am – 2 pm, Free, Family Friendly Event

A celebration of the summer garden for the entire family!Activities for the day include garden demonstrations - including preserving your garden herbs, cooking demo and composting basics for the adults.The entire family will enjoy a variety of activities from make your own harvest hat to garden stories to face painting to a garden scavenger hunt.

*Fall Organic 6-Week Gardening Series

Saturdays, September 30-November 4

10 am – Noon, Cost: $60

The Fall Organic Gardening series will cover the steps to prepare your organic garden for winter and make the most of your harvest. Topics will include soil building and season extension techniques, fall planting, saving plants/seeds for next year’s garden, and tips for fall clean up and pruning.

Instructors include: Kirsten Akre, Kilbourn Park Greenhouse Floraculturalist, BillShores, Urban Organic Farmer and grower for celebrity chef Rick Bayless, and Laury Lewis, Master Gardener and Mayor Daley Gardener of the Year Recipient.
