Release Date: 04/04/08
Look high to the sky with the Chicago Park District’s Birding Workshop at The Notebaert Nature Museum, 2430 N. Cannon Dr., on Saturday, October 20 at 9a.m.
Designated as an “Important Bird Area” by the National Audubon Society, the Chicago Park District’s lakefront is the perfect location to see a variety of birds during their bi-annual migratory passage through Chicago. Participants mind catch a glimpse of Hooded Merganser, Yellow-Rumped Warbler, Yellow-Belly Sap Sucker, and American Kestrel!
“This birding workshop caters to a wide-range of nature enthusiasts,” said Peggy Stewart, Manager of Environmental Programs. “Children and adults can learn the basics of birding and learn about the various types of migratory birds that visit during migratory season.”
The Birding Workshops are hosted throughout the season at various Park District locations. These workshops are led by Tadas Birutis, who runs Lifebird Nature Tours. Tadas makes birding accessible, easy and fun! This workshop will teach participants how to use binoculars, how to better spot birds and how to look for specific characteristics.
It’s never too late or too soon to start birding. Birding is something you can do anywhere, but Chicago Park District locations are ideal places to see a wide variety of our fine-feathered friends. These events are free and for all ages. Prior registration is required for each workshop. Call 312.742.5039 to register in advance.
The Nature Oasis program helps Chicagoans experience and enjoy the wonder of nature right here in the city. It strives to cultivate environmental awareness and appreciation by offering a wide range of nature-based programs throughout the seasons, in locations across the city. We invite you and your family and friends to join us at one or more of these programs.
