CHICAGO PARK DISTRICT GAINS 3.36 ACRES OF LAND

PARK DISTRICT BOARD APPROVES DONATED LAND ACQUISITIONS AND TRANSFERS

Today, the Chicago Park District’s Board of Commissioners approved the acquisition and transfer of land donated to the Park District. The following land acquisitions and transfers resulted in a net gain of 3.36 acres for the Park District:

· Commonly known as Hartland Park, located near the intersection of Schubert Avenueand Hermitage Avenuein the Lincoln Parkneighborhood, this parcel of land is a.51-acreof land that has been environmentally remediated and developed. Donated by Belgravia Group, Ltd., the open space includes a playground, walking paths, benches, lighting and landscape and is appraised at $1,370,000.

· 601 West Kinzie,located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Kinzie Avenue and Des Plaines Street in the Near West Side neighborhood, this parcel of land is a 1.03-acreof land that has been environmentally remediated and developed. Donated by Parcel B Owner LLC, a Delawarelimited liability company and an affiliate of Fifield Realty Corp., the open space includes a playground, walking paths, dog friendly area, benches, lighting and landscape and was appraised at $5,145,000.

· Park No. 541 (PritzkerPark), 310 – 356 S. State St., located adjacent to PritzkerPark, this parcel of land is a 0.65-acreof land that was transferred from the City of Chicagoto the Park District through an intergovernmental agreement. The parcel of land will be developed and operated by the Park District with TIF funding from the City in the amount of $400,000.

· Southwest corner of Rockwell and Jackson, bound by Rockwell Avenue, JacksonStreet and Maplewood Avenue, this parcel of land is a 2.1-acre of land in the Near West Side neighborhood. This parcel of land was acquired by the Park District in exchange for Park District owned by SainPark, 2453 W. Monroe St., and ChicagoPublic Schoolowned Park No. 489, 2420 W. Adams St., through an intergovernmental agreement with the Chicago Housing Authority, the City of Chicagoand ChicagoPublic Schools. The City will grant the Park District Open Space Fee Proceeds in the amount of $2,750,000 to finance the construction of a new park. The net gain of land is 1.17 acres.

According to the 2001 Open Space Need by Community Area analysis, the near west side and the western portion of the Lincoln Parkneighborhood are underserved by open space. These new land acquisitions would greatly benefit the community by providing much needed open and active, green space. All of today’s land acquisitions were donated to the Park District.
