PARK DISTRICT REIMBURSED FOR ACESSIBILITY IMPROVEMENTS DISTRICT-WIDE

Release Date: 04/09/08

The Chicago Park District’s Board of Commissioners is expected to adopt a resolution which authorizes the reimbursement of expenditures for accessibility improvements district-wide related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The Board of Commissioners will vote on the recommendation today, Wednesday, April 9. Upon the Board’s approval, the Park District will undertake ADA infrastructure improvements within various parks and facilities. Major projects are planned for 30 locations throughout the city.

The total 2008 capital spending budget appropriation adopted by the Board of Commissioners in December 2007 was approximately $131 million. This resolution authorizes the Park District to recapture funds paid for the costs of the projects and expenses incidental in an amount not to exceed $35 million.

By passing this reimbursement resolution, the Park District preserves its ability to reimburse ADA capital expenditures that are associated with the 2008 Special Recreational Activity Bonds which are expected to be issued during the course of 2008. The bonds will be secured by the Special Recreation Activity Property Tax Levy and will be issued to the Chicago Park District.
