PARK DISTRICT THANKS PUBLIC WHO HELPED “SAVE OUR LAKE” FROM POLLUTANTS

Release Date: 07/19/07

The Chicago Park District would like to thank the hundreds of thousands of concerned citizens from across the Chicago region and the rest of the country who added their names to the petition drives of us and our partners. As promised, General Superintendent Tim Mitchell delivered the Park District’s 70,000 petitions to Indiana State Governor Mitch Daniels’ office Wednesday, August 22nd. Thanks to the efforts of many of our partners and the voices of our citizens, the result of these efforts is that British Petroleum has now promised NOT to increase pollution levels into Lake Michigan with their Whiting Refinery project. With the delivery of the petitions and these recent developments, at this time the current petition drive has ended. The Chicago Park District will continue to monitor the situation and pledges to respond as necessary.
