Take a Free Tour of Lincoln Park Conservatory this Winter

Release Date: 01/11/07

Escape the cold weather this winter and discover the lush tropical greenery of Lincoln Park Conservatory, 2391 N. Stockton Drive, with a free guided tour. This is an ongoing program sponsored by the Chicago Park District and the Lincoln Park Conservancy.

Trained volunteer docents provide the free guided tours at the conservatory with a greater appreciation and understanding of the history and plant collections of this Lincoln Park gem. The Lincoln Park Conservatory is home to tropical palms and ancient ferns, right in the heart of Lincoln Park. Constructed in stages between 1890 and 1895, the Conservatory was designed both to showcase exotic plants and to grow the thousands of plants needed for use in the parks. With its four display houses: the Palm House, Fern Room, Orchid House and Show House - home to the annual flower shows - the Conservatory continues to provide a haven in the city. The 30-minute tours take place Fridays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Sundays 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The tours start on the hour and on the half hour.

To join a tour, just meet in the lobby before the tour. Tours for the conservatory are all year long. No registration required.
