Take a Walk in the Park April 16 and Celebrate National Start! Walking Day
Release Date: 03/27/08
The Chicago Park District is partnering with the American Heart Association for National Start! Walking Day on Wednesday, April 16. Staff at seven citywide parks will lead one-mile walks with seniors in the morning and children in the afternoon as part of an effort to help Chicagoans adopt a healthy lifestyle through exercise.
"Fitness and physical activity are part of our core values," said General Superintendent and CEO of the Chicago Park District, Tim Mitchell. "Walking is the first step in improving one’s quality of life."
The event is open to the public. Community members are welcome to walk at the selected sites during regular park hours that day and measure their progress using the route markers along the path.
