Park District and Arts at Large Present Wednesday Night Concert Series
Concerts at Lincoln Park Cultural Center Feature Eclectic Lineup

The Chicago Park District and Arts at Large present the program Voices from Past and Present at the Lincoln Park Cultural Center, 2045 N. Lincoln Park West, at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, April 18 and May 2, 16 and 30. All four performances are admission free.
Voices from Past and Present features a mix of local artists in genres spanning hip-hop, gospel, jazz and cabaret. Arts at Large has been presenting concerts in partnership with the Chicago Park District since fall 2005. A nonprofit organization, Arts at Large strives to promote and introduce Chicago's emerging musicians and artists to live performance opportunities. The Lincoln Park Cultural Center is one of 12 parks designated as a neighborhood cultural center by the Chicago Park District. These locations throughout the city offer opportunities for intensive study of the arts in various disciplines. The cultural centers also serve as sites for performances, exhibitions, and partnerships with cultural organizations such as the Joffrey Ballet, the Chicago Improv Festival and the Ravinia Music Festival.

Yuri Lane, the Human Beatbox
Wednesday, April 18 at 7 p.m.
Yuri Lane performs his famous beatbox/harmonica, fusing together elements of hip-hop, jazz, funk and soul. Lane is a regular performer at local clubs and tours nationally at theaters and college campuses with his hip-hop play, From Tel Aviv to Ramallah. The piece addresses the Israeli-Palestinian conflict while emphasizing the humanity, suffering and joy of both Israelis and Palestinians.
A Night of Gospel with the Elite Ensemble from the Choir Academy of Chicago
Wednesday, May 2 at 7 p.m.
Led by Brad Raymond, artistic director/conductor, in performing works by Donald Neale, arranger/composer, the Elite Ensemble from the Choir Academy is an innovative performing arts-based charter school serving gifted children from third to eighth grade. The ensemble's musical excellence and diversity has landed it collaborations with esteemed Grammy artists and producers such as Darius Brooks, Kurt Elling, and Mariah Carey in the gospel, jazz and pop categories.
The Art of the Jazz Singer
Wednesday, May 16 at 7 p.m.
This trio of Hinda Hoffman (vocals), Lorin Cohen (bass), and Ryan Cohan (piano) creates unique arrangements of jazz standards and treasures from The Great American Songbook.
Hinda Hoffman was selected as the featured vocalist for the Amherst Jazz Festival in 1993. She has performed nationally at various prestigious festivals and has been seen on the Black Entertainment Television network.
Ryan Cohan is an in-demand sideman and composer and has worked with master jazz artists such as Freddie Hubbard, Regina Carter, Curtis Fuller, Jon Faddis, and Kent Jordan among others. Here and Now, his debut release, was met with critical acclaim in Europe and the U.S.
Bassist, composer, and arranger Lorin Cohen has performed throughout North America, Europe and Asia, sharing the stage with many jazz luminaries, including Monty Alexander, Andy Bey, and Von Freeman.
Es ist zu Lange Her … Cabaret from the Weimar Republic
Wednesday, May 30 at 7 p.m.
This concert focuses on Germany’s music and history from 1919-33, particularly on three of the most famous composers of that period: Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler and Friedrich Hollaender. Many Jewish/German artists rose to fame during this time, fled the Nazis, and emigrated to France or settled in the U.S.
A.J. Wester, a classical singer and director, created the script for the program. She has appeared as a soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as well as productions with Chicago Opera Theater and DePaul Opera Theater. As a director, Wester has led productions for Intimate Opera and Light Opera Works.
