Theater on the Lake Revists its Ghostly Past as a Former Sanitarium

Back by popular demand, the Chicago Park District and Walgreens present the fourth annual Haunted Sanitarium at Theater on the Lake, 2401 N. Lake Shore Dr., Oct. 12-14 and Oct. 19-31. The popular summertime theater is located along Chicago’s beautiful lakefront and revisits its original use as a sanitarium in the 1920s and ‘30s.
The Haunted Sanitarium celebrates opening weekend Oct. 12-14 and continues Oct. 19-31. Hours are from 7–11 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and 6-11 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The attraction is recommended for ages 13 and older. General admission is $10, $8 for students with school identification. This year’s Haunted Sanitarium features several scary scenes including a cemetery, circus, morgue and a demented dentist’s office. There will also be a waiting area featuring concessions and spooky movies. Visitors needing special assistance will be partnered with a staff guide.
Parking is available for $6 at Lincoln Park Zoo. Patrons can validate tickets and pay for parking at the Theater on the Lake box office during the Haunted Sanitarium hours.
During the final weekend of Haunted Sanitarium, the Chicago Park District and Life Source will hold a blood drive Saturday, Oct. 27 from 2-5 p.m. Those who donate blood will receive one voucher for free admission to Haunted Sanitarium valid from Oct. 27-31.
