SOUTH SHORE OPERA COMPANY OF CHICAGO HOSTS FIRST ANNUAL BENEFIT CONCERT FEATURING BROADWAY HITS

The South Shore Opera Company of Chicago hosts Broadway Regards, its first annual benefit concert and reception Friday, Oct. 23 at the recently renovated South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Shore Dr. The Parrot Cage Restaurant will cater the reception at 5:30 p.m. It will be followed by a 7 p.m. concert in the Robeson Theater.
Broadway Regards will feature favorites from Dreamgirls, The Wiz, Sweeney Todd, Showboat, Into the Woods, West Side Story, Ragtime, Chicago, and Firefly. Performers include national recording artist Roberta Thomas along with Isaiah Robinson, Andrea Morris, Kamaran-Alexis Madison, Brandon Brown, Brian-Alwyn Newland, Antonio King, Magaly Cordero, and Sean Harris.
There will also be a post-concert dessert reception with the artists. Tickets are $65 and can be ordered by phone at 773-241-6147 or online at www.southshoreopera.org. Proceeds from the concert will make it possible for South Shore Opera Company of Chicago to continue to offer free concerts at the South Shore Cultural Center.
Parking is available on the premises. In addition, a free shuttle service to a remote lot at South Shore Bank will also be available.
The South Shore Opera Company was founded by local artist and University of Illinois at Chicago professor Marvin Lynn this winter. The company’s mission is to make opera and musical theater more accessible to diverse Chicago audiences on the southside and elsewhere. The company was formed in partnership with the South Shore Cultural Center and its advisory council. All concerts involve a diverse cross-section of youth performers and are free and open to the public.
