COMPLETED MULTIPURPOSE TRAIL WILL ACCOMMODATE VARIOUS USES
Release Date: 09/17/07
Chicago Park District officials announced that another phase of capital improvements to the city’s lakefront trail is underway. The current phase will improve a 1.16 mile stretch of existing lakefront trail from Foster Avenue south to Lawrence Avenue; and from Addison Street south to Belmont Avenue.
“Chicago’s lakefront attracts millions each year,” said Chicago Park District General Superintendent & CEO Tim Mitchell. “We are committed to improving the trail’s amenities to accommodate the diverse, recreational needs and interests of its users.”
The scope of work includes the demolition and salvaging of existing site amenities, new construction and/or modification of existing asphalt surfacing. Completed trail will meet Chicago Park District standard specifications of 14 feet in width including 3 ft. of soft surface running material on both sides of the trail. The project also includes the relocation of existing and installation of new site drainage, replacement of existing drinking fountains and benches, new trail signage and graphics, lighting, and landscape restoration tasks associated with the construction.
This project compliments similar improvements the Chicago Park District has made throughout the length of the lakefront trail. This $900K effort will be funded through the Illinois Department of Recreation Trail Grant and the Chicago Park District.
The contract was awarded to Chicagoland Paving, Inc. and is expected to be complete by December of this year.
