Polar Adventure Days Continue at Northerly Island Jan. 20 & Feb. 24
Nature Park Offers Admission-Free Family Activities

The Chicago Park District invites families to the second annual Polar Adventure Days, an admission-free event taking place on two Saturdays, Jan. 20 and Feb. 24, from noon to 4 p.m. at Northerly Island, 1400 S. Lynn White Drive, on the Museum Campus.
“The beautiful nature area of Northerly Island is the perfect setting for winter fun,” said Timothy J. Mitchell, General Superintendent & CEO of the Chicago Park District. “We welcome residents to enjoy our natural areas during all seasons.”
The first 500 visitors to Polar Adventure Days receive a complimentary mug filled with hot chocolate. Additionally, visitors will have the opportunity to come face-to-face with native birds, enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides, watch ice sculpture carvings, and create nature-inspired crafts.
Following is the schedule of events for Polar Adventure Days on Northerly Island:
Saturday, Jan. 20 and Feb. 24
• Horse-drawn carriage rides will be offered through the island.
• Spring Brook Nature Center displays its live birds of prey from Illinois.
• Nadeau’s Ice Sculpture provides an interactive, functional ice slide for children as well as family-friendly ice games.
• Snowshoes and cross-country skis will be available if there is at least three inches of snow. If there is no snow, Park staff will facilitate an outdoor nature activity.
• Northwest Passage gives a demonstration on preparing for an arctic expedition.
• Storytelling and puppetry will be available indoors.
• Mammal artifacts will be on display and an expert leads an educational discussion of the local fauna found at Northerly Island.
• Nature craft tables allow participants to exercise their creativity with winter-inspired activities.
