Release Date: 04/22/09

Chicago Bulls players John Salmons and Linton Johnson, Bulls legend Bob Love and mascot Benny the Bull hosted the official ribbon cutting ceremony of the Chicago Bulls Reading and Learning Center at Douglas Park, 1401 S. Sacramento Dr., Tuesday, April 14.

A group of local children were welcomed to the newly renovated room that is fully equipped with tools to help children learn. In addition to a state-of-the-art computer lab, the newly renovated room includes a selection of books, reference materials and a “Step Up to Reading” corner designed to strengthen literacy skills.

The freshly painted room also features new furniture and Bulls memorabilia. To celebrate the Reading and Learning Center opening, the players participated in reading sessions and educational computer games with the children.

The Douglas Park Advisory Council worked closely with the Bulls, Rush University Medical Center and ComEd in coordinating the event that was part of the Bulls’ ongoing Read To Achieve program, which inspires literacy among Chicago’s youth. Rush University Medical Center and ComEd are partners of the Bulls Read To Achieve program.

The Bulls have committed to building a Reading and Learning Center at a Chicago youth facility each year. Similar centers have been established at the Martin Luther King Boys and Girls Club, Rush University Medical Center, Cook Elementary School, William H. Brown Elementary School, and Victor Herbert Elementary School.
