The Chicago Park District commemorates Black History Month in February 2009 with various interdisciplinary events, including a tribute to Motown. Most programs are admission free and many activities are geared toward the entire family. Please contact each individual park for additional information.

Creative Artist Association Exhibition at South Shore Cultural Center
Sunday, Feb. 1 – Saturday, Feb. 28; 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily

The artists in the Creative Artist Association exhibit paintings, drawings, sculptures and ceramic works. The artists will be on hand opening day Feb. 1 from 2-4 p.m.
UMOJA Black History Celebration
Saturday, Feb. 21; 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The event features African dance performances and poetry readings plus a vibrant marketplace featuring food, jewelry and clothing.

Celebration features African art, dancing, and a marketplace featuring various items for sale.
Black History Month Tribute to Motown

Children ages 6-12 in the Chicago Park District’s Park Kids program present the history of the legendary Motown Records through song and dance to recorded music of its famous artists.
