Kelly (John) Playlot Park (c/o Gill Park)

History

The City of Chicago created this long, narrow park in the Lakeview neighborhood in 1979, dedicating it as Kelly Park the following year. The park honors neighborhood resident Private First Class John H. Kelly, who was killed in action in France during World War II.

The Chicago Park District began leasing the three-block-long site in 1991, as part of a complex land swap with the city. Four years later, the park district improved the greenspace by constructing a new soft surface playground.
