Gano Park
History
The Borg-Warner Corporation donated this property to the Chicago Park District in 1974. In 1998, the park district named the site Gano Park for a 19th-century community just to the east. Gano was settled around 1881 by German and Dutch Americans overflowing nearby Roseland. The Gano Company of Cincinnati controlled the area through its agent Thomas Scanlan. In 1889, when many adjacent villages were annexed to Chicago, Gano refused to join the city. The following year, however, financial difficulties led to Gano's annexation.
