Keeping Our Beaches Clean The US EPA recommends that municipalities test its public beach waters for unacceptable levels of E. coli bacteria at least once every two weeks. The Chicago Park District tests beach waters for the bacteria daily. To help decrease the unacceptable levels of bacteria, the Park District's Lakefront Region also cleans the beaches daily. Beachgoers can contribute to beach cleanliness by placing trash in proper bins.
