Volunteer Description:

Nature gardens, a part of the Chicago Park District’s Nature Area Program, are gardens of native Illinois plant species and their cultivars planted in Chicago parks to showcase the variety, color, beauty, and environmental benefits of landscaping with native plants. But just like a home garden, these sites need love and attention from a dedicated caretaker. The Chicago Park District seeks a native plant enthusiast to help enhance and maintain our nature gardens in the following parks: Bessemer, Ogden, Portage, Prospect Gardens, Rutherford Sayre, and Horner. Volunteer gardeners or caretakers may help the Park District in selecting native species for supplemental plantings, weeding and watering plant beds, pruning shrubs and trees, maintaining trails, improving signage, and leading educational tours of the nature garden. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact the Volunteer Stewardship Coordinator at 312-742-4072.
