Title: Natatorium Instructor (Hourly)
2008 Starting Salary: $15.42 per hour
Department:Beaches & Pools
DUTIES: Supervises a staff performing life guarding and aquatic programming activities at a Park District beach or pool facility.Supervises unorganized play and enforces Park District rules and regulations.Observes and corrects hazardous situations and behaviors.Uses lifesaving techniques to respond to emergencies and life-threatening situations.Administers first aid and CPR.Inspects pools for cleanliness and safe operation.Notifies supervisor of the need for pool maintenance and repairs. Uses the work order system to request beach maintenance and repair.
Provides instruction and supervision for Park District patrons developing aquatic skills and participating in aquatic sports and games. Demonstrates proper techniques and skills for swimming, lifesaving and aquatic recreation and sports activities.Provides instruction in strategies of aquatic team sports, individual sports and conditioning.Provides information on the rules and regulations of individual and team sports.May officiate team and individual sports.Issues equipment and supplies.Sets up recreation apparatus and equipment.Develops and maintains a positive relationship and open channel of communication with participants, parents, volunteers and the community.Assists in the coordination of aquatic special events.Maintains records and prepares routine reports.Attends and may assist in conducting workshops, in-service training seminars and employee skills assessment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience:
Graduation from high school or the equivalent (GED) is required.A minimum of 18 months of full time aquatic experience which included at least 9 months of instructional/coaching experience is also required.In addition, candidates must have 2 full seasons of open water surf beach experience to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.Certification Requirements at time of hire:
American Red Cross Life guarding certificate or equivalent to include:
American Red Cross CPR for Professional Rescuer, or equivalent
American Red Cross First Aid or equivalent
American Red Cross AED or equivalent
American Red Cross Oxygen Administration or equivalent
American Red Cross Blood borne Pathogens Training or equivalent
Chicago Park District Life guarding Card
