Duties:Initiates and implements therapeutic recreation programs for adults and children with disabilities (hearing impaired, blind, partially sighted, physically disabled).Conducts therapeutic recreation classes and programs.Trains and supervises part time instructors assigned to therapeutic recreation.Promotes the therapeutic recreation program throughout the community.Works with schools, hospitals and other agencies to arrange for children and adults with specialized needs to attend park programs.Develops recreation and athletic goals for patrons with disabilities.Develops and organizes special events for sports camps, Special Olympics.Customizes programs in response to specialized needs.Conducts workshops and training seminars.Participates in fund raising, marketing, budgeting and recruiting volunteers for the therapeutic recreation program.Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.Sets up recreation apparatus and equipment.Performs other duties such as registration, fee collection, and maintenance of health records, parental release forms and preparing reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field plus 3 years of experience conducting therapeutic recreation programs, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.CERTIFICATION:Professional certification preferred; eligibility for professional certification required for appointment.CPR Certification from American Red Cross or other nationally recognized organization.

2009 Wages: $15.42 per hour
