DUTIES: Operates landscape construction and tree and shrubbery maintenance equipment and machinery including, but not limited to, rototillers, edgers, small bulldozers, power saws, serial towers (with bucket), log booms, sod cutters, brush chippers, and stump removers.Performs routine maintenance and repairs on equipment and machinery.Performs planting, removing, pruning, seeding, sodding, watering, fertilizing and other related tree and shrubbery and landscape construction activities at Park District parks and park facilities. Performs routine tree surgery on damaged plant life including cabling, rodding and cavity work.Treats trees and shrubbery for disease or infestation.Observes and reports cases of damaged plants or dangerous conditions.Performs work to alleviate hazardous conditions.Performs athletic field renovation activities including stripping sod, resodding, grading, and infield construction.May apply chemicals to trees, lawns and shrubs to prevent and eradicate disease.Applies fertilizers and other growth enhancement agents to the soil.Performs planting and care activities at Park District nurseries, including propagation, planting, tilling and watering.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Graduation from High School or the equivalent is recommended and supplemented by a minimum of one year of experience performing landscape construction and tree and shrubbery maintenance activities, including the operation of landscape construction equipment and machinery, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.License Requirement:A valid State of Illinois Operator’s License to spray pesticides, fungicides, etc. is preferred at time of hire and required within one year of hire.

2008 Salary: $53,693 per year
