Duties: Initiates and designs new programs working with parks, communities and outside arts, education or recreation provides (depending on core area) to pinpoint areas of interest and need. (External partners may be museums, colleges, arts and recreation organizations, conservation groups or any such sources of expertise and resources for program creation.Works to tailor programs to specific park or community needs. Defines specific role(s) of each external partner (if any) in program development and monitors their participation. Is responsible for overseeing projects on a detailed level from conception to completion. (The products of some programs consist of ongoing course or other educational offerings.Other types of programs culminate in specific events.)Establishes and monitors time lines, costs, budgets, and standards for evaluation.At completion, evaluates programs according to these standards.Hires and manages instructional staff, and arranges and may participate in any necessary staff training.Selects sites for specific program activities.Obtains and tracks all necessary equipment.May help develop and write curriculum.Monitors to make sure that all aspects of programs are implemented as planned.Researches outside funding opportunities, writes grant proposals and undertakes other appropriate fundraising activities.Works with external partners to stretch Park District resources.Publicizes and markets programs in consultation with Communication Department. Works collaboratively with other internal departments, regions and park staff on program and project development, staffing and events. Oversees and monitors data collection. Provides technical assistance to local parks as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors Degree in physical education, educations, recreation/leisure studies, therapeutic recreation or related discipline in social service, cultural enrichment or environmental education plus three years of programming teaching or project management experience with a community-based agency in assigned core area.Qualifications specific to program area also apply.

2008 Salary: $14.18 per hour
