Jazz Ambassadors Perform Admission-Free Concerts in the Parks

The Chicago Park District’s Jazz Ambassadors perform admission-free concerts at citywide parks Aug. 3, 7, 12, and 18.
Jazz Ambassadors is a paid teen internship summer program run by the Chicago Park District and Jazz Institute of Chicago. Nine young musicians are selected through an interview and audition process. Once selected, they work under the direction of three Jazz Institute mentors for six weeks learning about jazz performance, composition, technique and theory. This year, the jazz ambassadors are working with professional musicians Tito Carrillo, Pat Mallinger, and Willie Pickens.
The performance schedule is as follows:
Wednesday, Aug. 3
South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Shore Dr.
7 p.m.
Performance is followed by an admission-free screening of Straight No Chaser: Thelonious Monk as part of the Movies in the Parks series. Directed by Pat Mallinger.
Sunday, Aug. 7
South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. S. Shore Dr.
1 p.m.
The performance is part of the Jazz Unites Jazz and Heritage Festival. Directed by Pat Mallinger.
Friday, Aug. 12
Humboldt Park Boat House, 1359 N. Sacramento Ave.
6:30 p.m.
Directed by Willie Pickens.
Thursday, Aug. 18
Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park, as part of Made in Chicago
6:30 p.m.
The Jazz Ambassadors open for Latin Inspiration: Howard Levy with Chevere, Trio Globo and special guests. Directed by Willie Pickens.
