Park District Hosts NikeFuel House, Basketball Court in South Lincoln Park

6/29/2012

The Chicago Park District hosts the NikeFuel House, 1800 N. Stockton, and the seasonal NikeFuel House basketball court in south Lincoln Park, offering the community new ways to engage in recreation through Nike digital innovations.  Both opened today with an evening dunk contest and Nike Pro Summer League basketball game with special appearances by the LA Clippers’ Bobby Simmons and other players.

Nike renovated the Lincoln Park south field house to create the NikeFuel House, which is designed to inspire and motivate Chicagoans for an active summer.  The NikeFuel House will offer programming and admission-free activities such as Nike Training Club workouts, basketball skills clinics, run clubs and more.  More details will be available through Nike Chicago’s twitter account, twitter.com/nikechicago.

Also available at the NikeFuel House will be trialing opportunities for Nike+ Basketball and Nike+ Training, two new experiences connecting digitally enabled footwear with interactive mobile applications, and purchase the Nike+ FuelBand, a wrist-based device designed to track everyday activity.

Through a partnership with the Chicago Park District, Nike is inspiring youth throughout Chicago’s diverse communities by donating equipment for Park District programming.  In addition, Nike will provide transportation for 360 Chicago Park District day campers ages 9-12 to attend skills clinics in basketball and field sports in the month of July.

Chicagoans and visitors alike are also invited to enjoy the temporary basketball court that Nike upgraded with premium, hardwood flooring, grandstands and lights to invigorate summer hoops in the city.  The hardwood floor is a seasonal feature through September, after which a surfaced court will remain for public play.  Individuals can determine the process for using the court for events by calling 312.218.2795, or emailing nikefuelhouse@nike.com.

Individuals who wish to participate in pick-up games can do so admission-free by presenting identification at the NikeFuel House.  They will have the opportunity to sample Nike’s newest Nike+ Basketball footwear while playing on the hardwood floor court.  All games and activities on the court will be subject to Chicago Park District permitting guidelines.

The Nike Pro Summer League, featuring some of Chicago’s best amateur players, is set to play on the NikeFuel House court Thursday and Saturday evenings from 6-8 p.m., weather dependent.  All games are free and open to the public.

The NikeFuel House will be open 12 - 8 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. weekends through September.  During those hours, the basketball court will be open to the public, outside of planned league activities and skills clinics.

More details about programming and other events can be found at Nike Chicago’s twitter account, twitter.com/nikechicago.
