TRIP AT A GLANCE
Explore the Marquette Park Lagoon with Canoemobile! Staff from Wilderness Inquiry and our partner organizations will greet you at the meeting place for your session. You will spend half of your session rotating among land-based watershed activity stations and half of your session participating in the canoeing program.

LAND-BASED WATERSHED ACTIVITIES (1.5 HOURS)
Programming partners will lead stations around urban water topics. The stations might include:
?Lagoon Dipping
?Bird Watching
?Nature Play
?Fishing (8 years old and older only)

CANOE PROGRAM (1.5 HOURS)
Wilderness Inquiry will facilitate the paddling experience. Before getting in a boat, you will be fitted into a life jacket and sized for a paddle. WI staff will provide you with important canoe instruction and safety tips. Everyone will wear a life jacket or Personal Flotation Device (?PFD?) during the entire trip. If you are not comfortable with swimming, no need to worry?the canoes are safe and your life jacket will protect you. The paddling experience will include:
?Water safety
?Paddle/equipment instruction
?A paddle lasting about 20-30 minutes
?Reflection and closing activity

Participants are expected to follow the WI rules and behave in a respectful manner toward each other, staff and other people on the river. You will travel in 24-foot handmade Voyageur canoes. Each Voyageur canoe holds 10 paddlers. They are very stable boats, and they move quite fast when paddlers work together. These boats are designed specifically for trips on big or moving water. After we finish the canoe route, we will unload boats and gather together to share thoughts and reflections on the experience.

This is an outdoor event, so you may have rain, wind, and hot or cold weather. It can be significantly cooler on the water than on land, and temperatures can change throughout the day. Be sure to bring clothing appropriate for these varied outdoor conditions. We guarantee that you will never cross another waterway without thinking about this day!
